Curling is Cool Party

Do you find yourself glued to the television watching the Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver? Like many of you out there, we here at Party Remedies want to shine light on our favorite winter sport, Curling (which, mind you, has lead in ratings for the past two Winter Olympic games over any other winter sport). Today also happens to be “Curling is Cool” day, so all the more reason to celebrate this exciting and rapidly growing event.

DECORATIONS

  • Ideally you’ll be heading outdoors or to your local rink for some practice, but in the meantime, create a sparkly, wintery mood in your home. This includes snowflakes, blue and silver decorations (like your paper goods, streamers, balloons, and of course, curling ribbon), and lots of ice.
  • Hang images from famous curling competitions to inspire your guests.
  • Create curling pamphlets. Print out information on the sport on quality paper to distribute to your guest.
  • Put out miniature decorations inspired by curling equipment, such as tiny brooms and pretty stones.

FOOD AND DRINK MENU

Keep it healthy! After all, you could potentially be training for your newfound favorite sport.

  • Appetizer/Entrée: Soup and Salad

Create a meal with chicken soup (stick to clear broth soups), a fresh garden salad with a low-fat dressing, and a multigrain roll.

  • Dessert: Fresh Fruit Kebabs with Lemon Lime Dip

Try this tasty and healthy recipe from the Mayo Clinic.

  • Cocktail: Morning Mojito

Also from the Mayo Clinic, this is a healthy, virgin variation of the classic cocktail.

ENTERTAINMENT

  • Watch curling videos and live games. Canada’s CurlTV.com is an excellent resourse.
  • Follow curling all the way to the Olympics with NBC.
  • Watch Men with Brooms, a Canadian romantic comedy from 2002 based around curling.

GAMES

  • Start curling! Check out this Curling Overview for information on the sport. The most essential equipment needed will be brooms, rocks, and a playing surface.
  • If you’re truly passionate about the sport, but find yourself lacking in the athletic department, consider investing in a Cool Curling tabletop game.

ATTIRE

  • Dress in curling gear!

Not sure what to wear? Visit Performance Curling Wear for a variety of sweaters, jackets, pants, shoes, and more.

LAST MINUTE TIPS

If you want to get even more into the sport, the United States Curling Association has a list of curling clubs throughout the country.

And as always, remember to bring your camera!
