Big Hair Party

Dedicated to big hairstyles throughout time! While most of Party Remedies staff inspiration comes from a childhood in 1980′s New Jersey, the era which has most influenced your big hair should not be limited. Think of the bouffant, afro, mullet, Mohawk, teased 80′s hair, crimped 90′s hair, and any other kooky style. Have fun and be creative!

INVITATION TYPE

• Online- This will allow guests to easily post ideas and discuss hairstyles.

DECORATIONS

• Salon products- Aquanet bottles, crimper, blow dryer, big plastic combs
• Display mannequin heads wearing wigs
• If you can’t transform your home into a beauty shop, at least opt for girly colored decorations – lots of bright pink.

FOOD AND DRINK MENU

• Appetizer: Every big haired girl loves Spinach and Artichoke Dip! Try out this recipe from the Food Network.
• Entrée: Angel hair pasta
• Dessert: Coconut cupcake
• Cocktail: Hairy Slut

ENTERTAINMENT

• Music:
  • Play the soundtracks to “Hairspray” and “Hair.”
  • Play music from all your favorite ’80s and ’90s hair bands!
• Movies:
  • Steel Magnolias
  • Beauty Shop

GAMES

• Hold a Biggest Hair Contest. If anyone dared to show up without big hair, let your guests re-style it at the party! Also, if any guest shows up to the party with an 80s look and driving a Camaro, they should automatically get first prize.

ATTIRE

• First, pick out your favorite big hair. Some style icon ideas to get your ideas flowing – Mariah Carey (especially circa 1998 with the Divas Live tour), Peg Bundy, Cyndi Lauper, Marge Simpson, Cher.
• Dress up in a costume that compliments the style or era of your hairdo. For example, a 60′s style bouffant hairdo would look great with a shift dress and go-go boots. Or how about bell bottoms and a tunic to complement that 70′s afro?

LAST MINUTE TIPS

Another source of our big hair inspiration came from early 1990s high school yearbooks. Why not set up a “yearbook photo” section for every guest to take a picture. You can later use the images in a photo book to commemorate the event.
