Deli Party

party by anna

Do you ever find yourself craving some good, New York-style delicatessen fare? Well, we know it’s not practical to ask Katz’s or Carnegie’s to send you samples, so tonight, try and recreate the deli experience at home.

INVITATION TYPE

DECORATIONS

  • Leave your dining room table bare and set it with paper placemats, utensils, and condiments. Set a few boxes of crayons out on the table. Use baskets and deli paper to serve your food. This deli basket and squeeze bottle set should do the trick.
  • Hang up retro food signs like these from Retro Planet.

FOOD AND DRINK MENU

This party is all about the food. Here are some of our deli favorites:

  • Appetizer: Knish

We recommend Gabila’s knish, which can be found in many supermarkets or ordered online.

  • Entrée: Reuben with Potato Salad and Pickles

Serve this Simply Cooking recipe (we suggest substituting pastrami or the corned beef or using both meats) with your favorite potato salad recipe and half sour pickles.

  • Dessert: Black and White Cookies from Gourmet.com, New York style Cheesecake, Milk Shakes
  • Cocktail: Root Beer and Cream Soda

GAMES

What would the kids play when they’re bored at the deli or diner?

  • Paper football
  • Coloring placemats
  • Sugar cube stacking

ATTIRE

  • Outfit choices are purely up to you and your guests. Anything you would wear to a deli or family friendly restaurant is perfectly fine.

LAST MINUTE TIPS

If you decide you want to go totally nuts, try renting a retro arcade game, like Ms. Pacman.

And as always, remember to bring your camera!
