Flag Day Party

party by kelly

We here are Party Remedies are not only committed to give you party ideas for your own shindigs but teach you a little about the country you live in…..ok so that is kinda of a stretch of the truth. In reality we want to clear up a common misconception that has plagued one of our staffers for years, 27 to be exact, that July 4th is not the birthday of our country's flag. Instead Flag Day is actually today, June 14th, which is the day that has been accepted as the adoption of our country's flag.

INVITATION TYPE

  • Snail Mail: Buy stamps and mail out your invitations – that is the American thing to do.

DECORATIONS

Aim for that awesome 1800's rustic feel:

  • Colors should be red, white, and blue……really hope that wasn't hard.
  • Sparklers, if they are legal in your state (but we won't judge you if they just show up).
  • Sewing paraphernalia such as needles, fabric (red, white, and blue), and thread .
  • Rustic bowls and serving items (preferably pewter or wood), trying hitting up a garage sale to both keep the American dream alive and for those amazing finds.
  • Stars
  • Anything that you would find at a country home store.

FOOD AND DRINK MENU

Good, honest, American food:

ENTERTAINMENT

All American themed:

  • Patriotic Songs:
    • Star Spangled Banner
    • God Bless America
    • I'm Afraid of Americans
    • Born in the USA
    • America the Beautiful
    • Anything by Tobey Keith
    • Nothing by the Dixie Chicks

GAMES

  • Make Your Own Flag. Have some construction paper, glitter, markers, and pipe cleaners (yeah I said pipe cleaners…you know you miss playing with them) and have your friends design their own country's flag. Petoria on the Family Guy is an example.
  • Wiffle Ball, nothing is more American!
  • State Drinking Game. There are many ways to play this game, name states in alphabetical order, state and its capital, state and its export…whichever way you go just have fun celebrating the 50 stars.

ATTIRE

Go for the American History Icon Look:

LAST MINUTE TIPS

Though this pains most of the Party Remedies staff we have to give it up to the only state that recognizes Flag Day as a state holiday…Pennsylvania. We might suggest using this party as platform to start a letter writing campaign to have Flag Day become a National Holiday…seriously, a bunny who steals eggs can have his own day, so why not the symbol of our country?…Just saying!

And as always, remember to bring your camera!

Editor's note: Happy Birthday, Kelly!!!
