New York Yankees Party – New Stadium Edition

your daily party prescription

So are you ready to celebrate the season opener in "The House That Ruth Built?" Well we hate to break it to you but there is a New Stadium on the corner of 161st and River leaving the original Yankee Stadium as nothing more than a sacred hallowed ground for the greatest fans in baseball (at least in their opinions they are). So gather all your friends and throw the best tailgating party ever to celebrate the next "Cathedral of Baseball."

INVITATION TYPE

  • E-Mail: Invite your friends to your tailgating party with a simple e-mail and attach a Yankee schedule so you and your friends can plan the games you are going to attend or watch.

DECORATIONS

Ok, if you have never been to the Yankees' parking lots in the Bronx, no worries. Simply go to your local stadium (high school, college, or professional) and mimic what you see there in your backyard or your driveway. To recreate that parking lot oil on the ground feel:

  • Folding chairs with cup-holders, folding tables, coolers.
  • Charcoal grill and hotplates – all should be ultra portable.
  • Yankee team colors (navy and white) paper plates, cups, and flatware. Be sure the cups are opaque so if "cops cruise by" they can't tell what you're drinking. Everything should be disposable.

FOOD AND DRINK MENU

Okay, so there is a lot of debate lately as to "new" stadium food (i.e., sushi and salads). Well let us be the first to tell you, THEY HAVE NO PLACE AT A YANKEE GAME OR ANY SPORTING EVENT FOR THAT MATTER. Just because they have it on the menu does not mean you have to order it.

  • Appetizers: Bags of chips, Cracker Jacks, Popcorn, Peanuts (shell on), and Pretzels.
  • Entrée: Hot Dogs and Sausages

You can pansy out and grill chicken too, but we will still judge you.

  • Dessert: Cupcakes

Decorate them with your favorite Yankee numbers or the iconic Yankee Logo. If you can get your hands on mini baseball hats you can also serve ice cream in helmets with sprinkles.

  • Cocktail: Beer

Yankee Stadium endorsees Bud and Bud Light, and so should you. Yankee stadium is also a Pepsi stadium, so only Pepsi products should be served.

ENTERTAINMENT

  • Have the Radio on the AM dial (880 Yankees Radio Network if you are Yankee fan) for pre-game, the game, and post game, cause everyone loves John Sterling for over 4 hours! If you cannot get the Yankees on your AM dial, listen on-line.
  • If you can get a TV outside, go for it! Put on the game and enjoy but remember to lower the volume and listen the radio!

GAMES

  • Create the All-Time 9. Have friends create the greatest starting line-up in Yankee History. This is sure to bring on "loud" discussions.
    • Monument Park Challenge. Have friends name all of the Yankees who have a plaque in Monument Park. You can even take it a step further and have trivia questions around the lucky ones who are immortalized in Monument Park.

ATTIRE

This is very simple, Yankee Gear and only Yankee Gear. You will certainly have friends who will try to wear Red Sox jerseys and hats…our suggestion, though, is to throw paint at them (it is the only suggestion we can give you that will not land you in jail).

  • Yankee Jersey
  • Yankee Hats
  • Yankee T-shirts

LAST MINUTE TIPS

You either love them or you hate them, but whatever side you lie on, you have to have respect for their storied franchise. The original Yankee Stadium was the "House the Ruth Built" (which does bring a tear to our eyes), but Yankee fans everywhere can only hope that the New Yankee Stadium becomes "The House that Derek (or Posada) Built!"

And as always, remember to bring your camera!

The Yankees are another team that started slowly but they’ve turned it around. Since Alex Rodriguez returned, the entire squad has played much better. They should keep going to keep pace with the others. I really like them; they’ve always been my favourite teams in MLB. Just read about them here:
